I kept seeing these lazy dumplings everywhere, and obviously I had to try them. Anything that promises crispy, juicy homemade dumplings without folding or pleating immediately has my attention.
The method is almost too easy. You season the ground chicken, add little portions directly to the skillet, press wonton wrappers over the top, and let the pan do the rest. A little water creates steam to cook the filling while the bottoms become golden and crispy.
And then there’s the dipping sauce. Salty soy sauce, tangy rice vinegar, a touch of maple syrup, and sweet chili sauce make the easiest dipping sauce that somehow makes these even harder to stop eating.
These are perfect for busy weeknights, casual entertaining, or those nights when you want something that feels like takeout without ordering anything. Crispy bottoms, juicy chicken, and absolutely zero dumpling-folding drama.
Here’s how to make the viral lazy dumplings everyone is talking about.

Viral Lazy Chicken Dumplings
Ingredients
Method
- Mix all of the chicken filling ingredients in a bowl until fully combined.
- Heat a lightly oiled skillet over medium heat. Add small portions of the filling directly to the pan, leaving space between each portion.
- Place a wonton wrapper over each portion and gently press so it hugs the filling. No folding needed.
- Pour ¼ cup water into the skillet, cover, and let the dumplings cook for 5–7 minutes over low-medium heat.
- Meanwhile, combine the soy sauce, rice vinegar, maple syrup, sweet and sour chili sauce, and chopped scallions in a small bowl to make the dipping sauce.
- Flip the dumplings onto a plate so the crispy side is facing up.
- Serve immediately with the dipping sauce and sprinkle with sesame seeds, if desired.
Notes
- The beauty of these dumplings is that there is no pleating, sealing, or folding required. Simply place the wonton wrappers over the chicken filling and gently press them into place.
- The dipping sauce can be mixed before cooking the dumplings so everything is ready to serve as soon as they come out of the skillet.
