Viral Lazy Chicken Dumplings

Juicy chicken dumplings with crispy bottoms made the viral lazy way—no folding required. These easy dumplings come together in under 15 minutes and are served with a sweet, savory, and tangy dipping sauce.

Ingredients

For the Chicken Filling
  • 1 lb ground chicken breast
  • ½ cup scallions finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • tablespoons ginger minced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
For Cooking
  • Wonton wrappers
  • ¼ cup water
  • Oil for lightly greasing the skillet
For the Dipping Sauce
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons sweet and sour chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon scallions chopped
Optional Garnish
  • Sesame seeds

Method

  1. Mix all of the chicken filling ingredients in a bowl until fully combined.
  2. Heat a lightly oiled skillet over medium heat. Add small portions of the filling directly to the pan, leaving space between each portion.
  3. Place a wonton wrapper over each portion and gently press so it hugs the filling. No folding needed.
  4. Pour ¼ cup water into the skillet, cover, and let the dumplings cook for 5–7 minutes over low-medium heat.
  5. Meanwhile, combine the soy sauce, rice vinegar, maple syrup, sweet and sour chili sauce, and chopped scallions in a small bowl to make the dipping sauce.
  6. Flip the dumplings onto a plate so the crispy side is facing up.
  7. Serve immediately with the dipping sauce and sprinkle with sesame seeds, if desired.

Notes

  • The beauty of these dumplings is that there is no pleating, sealing, or folding required. Simply place the wonton wrappers over the chicken filling and gently press them into place.
  • The dipping sauce can be mixed before cooking the dumplings so everything is ready to serve as soon as they come out of the skillet.
