Crispy flour tortillas topped with seasoned ground beef, melted cheddar, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and a creamy homemade burger sauce. These easy smash burger tacos combine everything you love about burgers and tacos in one irresistible dinner.

Ingredients

For Burger Sauce
  • ½ cup avocado mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon pickle relish
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce
For Burger Mixture
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
For the Tacos
  • 8 flour tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tomato diced
  • 1½ cups romaine lettuce shredded
  • Pickles optional

Method

Make the Burger Sauce
  1. Add the avocado mayonnaise, tomato paste, garlic powder, smoked paprika, pickle relish, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce to a small bowl.
  2. Mix until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
Prepare the Beef
  1. Add the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper to a bowl.
  2. Mix until just combined. Avoid overmixing so the beef remains tender.
Assemble and Cook
  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. Spread a thin, even layer of the seasoned beef over one side of each flour tortilla, pressing it close to the edges.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Place each tortilla into the hot skillet with the beef side facing down.
  5. Cook for 2–3 minutes, or until the beef is browned and develops crispy edges.
  6. Transfer the taco to a baking sheet and repeat with the remaining tortillas.
  7. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar over the cooked beef.
  8. Bake at 450°F until the cheese is melted.
  9. Finish each taco with shredded romaine, diced tomato, burger sauce, and pickles, if using.
  10. Fold and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Spread the beef thinly. A thin, even layer helps the meat cook quickly and creates the crispy smash-burger edges.
  • Press the beef to the tortilla. Make sure it reaches close to the edges so every bite gets beef and the tortilla stays attached while cooking.
  • Use a hot skillet. The pan should be properly heated before adding the tacos so the beef browns instead of steaming.
